Industrial News >> Dell is going to push USB Type-C to its entire product line up

Dell was just announced two new 2-in-1 tablets at CES 2016, with one of them offering a 4K UHD model and both of them being powered by USB Type-C.

Starting with the brand new Latitude 13 7000 Series — a laptop that is essentially a port of the XPS 13, the company's popular consumer laptop, Dell is going to make a big push with its business class products. Also, USB Type-C is another thing that Dell is going to be pushing across to its entire product line up this coming year.

Dell announces two new 2-in-1 tablets with USB Type-C

There are two USB 3.1 Type-C ports at the left side.

The Latitude 12 has two USB 3.1 (Type-C/Thunderbolt) ports, an SD card reader, and a micro SIM slot. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera, and on the back is an 8-megapixel shooter.

The lower-end 2-in-1 is the 11-inch Latitude 11 5000. Dell only offers a full HD screen on this model, which comes with a much thicker bezel and a more rounded, less refined look. It can still be customized with Core M3 or M5 processors, and a choice of Windows 8 or 10. The Latitude 11 has just one regular USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, a micro HDMI port, a micro SIM slot, and an SD card reader.

The Latitude 12 7000 Series is a slick 12.5-inch tablet that weighs under one kilogram (1.61 pounds) and is just over 8mm thick (0.32 inches). It's customizable in a number of ways, too. Customers can configure it with Windows 10 or Windows 8, choose to power it with Intel's Core M3, M5, or M7 processors. The screen behind the Gorilla Glass display can also be customized: there's a higher end 4K UHD model or a full HD version, too.

Both new 2-in-1 tablets will come with keyboards when they go on sale this February. The Latitude 12 costs $1,049, while the 11-inch will run $749.
